Eine Flur Tour – Overstolzenhaus, 2023
"Eine Flur Tour" is a guided walk that leads participants through a continuous sequence of spaces inside the historic Overstolzenhaus in Cologne. The tour begins at the wooden door in the building's backyard, where we embark on a journey through interconnected rooms, each one leading naturally into the next.
The route passes through a variety of spaces: the Live Regie room, Studio A, a narrow corridor, a staircase, a library, a busy passageway, and finally, an inner garden. Starting in Studio A, I guide the participants through the remaining rooms. Before entering Studio A, participants gather in the Live Regie room, which serves as a wardrobe where each participant can select one of several wearable instruments.
These instruments, designed with long, floor-dragging materials such as sponges, brooms, stainless steel scourers, and mops, encourage interaction with the environment. As participants walk, the instruments brush against floors and corners, enhancing their sensory experience of the space. These wearable instruments are not just tools; they are crafted to amplify the tactile qualities of the journey, transforming the walk into an embodied exploration of the building's architecture.
Wearable Instruments
Studio A with the podium used as part of the walk. Sound installation at the stained glass window in Overstolzenhaus. 79 x 600 x 200 cm (HxBxT). Designed with advice from Axel Autschbach and constructed together.
Mark Bartz helps the participants with the sculptures before sending them into the next room as a complete group and letting the tour begin.
During the tour, I talk about the glass that was installed to protect the old fresco inside the staircase and the acoustic situation of the room.
The tour continues through a narrow corridor. I tell the participants how special it is to be able to pass through an emergency exit as an exception for the "Ein Flue Tour".
