It is about listening live. Surrounded by the sounds of passing cars, the portable loudspeaker on the table got amplified through the boom microphone sitting across from me, telling the monologue.
When the monologue and the surrounding sounds end, it starts to rain.
Then, I play the flute as a response.

Moers, Morse: the recorder tells me its journey.

Listening on the stage

"Hi, it is really nice to meet you.
I am Jeesoo Hong. I was here about three weeks ago. It was my first time to be here, in the city of Moers. I was travelling with my recorder. We were walking around the city without a map. So, very intuitively and instinctively, we were catching the acoustics of the city. We were following the sounds that we encountered by each step. Following the pedestrian streets, how they led us to go further.
Capturing all the hearable elements that were composed in the frame of Moers.
As I remember, we passed, we walked through a really long road where all the shops were facing each other. There, we passed a perfumery, then we passed a driver's office, a taxi driver's office, then we passed a sewing machine shop, and then we arrived at the centre of Moers, which was surrounded by a lot of cars, a lot of carloads.
And then, we found small fountains in the small alleyways. One fountain in front of a salon, one fountain in front of a comic shop.
And then... we reached the huge Schlosspark. We walked through the park, and there was a bakery which has a wooden watermill at the waterway.
And we passed the precious animal enclosure surrounded by fences. We also passed a very renovated housing area.
That is what I remember so far. The rest we will hear from the recorder. I brought the voice of the recorder, and I want to listen to what this recorder throws out on the stage together with you.
And hopefully, I can also respond to what we heard from the recorder during the duration of this stage.
If you also want to respond to what you heard from the stage, please come to me later, after this stage. It will be great to hear from you.
Now, I am going to start slowly...
This is called Moers, Morse."
